Out of the Elements-A Portrait Series
This portrait series is meant to show who these skiers and snowboarders are when they aren’t playing around in the mountains
Carter Fawcett has been skiing since he was 3 years old and found joy in the freedom it gives him. Getting away from the city, going into the trees and catching air, are all features of skiing that keep him drawn to it. Aside from skiing Fawcett likes to play hockey at various outdoor rinks and beer league games as the hockey culture is something he also enjoys.
Andrew Grohn currently works as a framer. But when he's not putting together houses he tries to out to the mountains to snowboard, which has been apart of his life for 7 years now.
Ben Bessel is a skier of 10 years and has been a welder for 2 years. He competed in skiing for 7 years but has since stopped. Skiing for Bessel is a form of mediation and a way to feel free.
Gibson has been skiing for 2 years and biking for 5 years. He particularly likes skiing as he finds it connects people and it's a fun hobby to do with friends.
Jodie Dyke is a snowboarder as well as an artist. They go by Contemporary Vice and paints on canvas, clothes, furniture, walls and much more. For Dyke snowboarding is a way to get an adrenaline rush and overcome fear and they also "adore being immersed in nature while pushing myself to grow".
Jacob Babb has been a skier for 16 years, and has been snowmobiling for 6 years. He says he likes skiing because "of the peace and quite it brings with being alone in the mountains." As well as the stress free environment where there's no need to think of responsibilities.
Katelynn Thompson has been skiing for around 20 years, and she says it "has been and integral part of my lifestyle in the winter", and it allows her to mediate in a way. Apart from skiing she's been a registered nurse for around 7 months and works at the Foothills Medical Center.
